A man who deliberately reversed his car into a woman repeatedly on her own driveway – trapping her beneath the vehicle as her children screamed from inside the house – has been jailed for two and a half years.

Morgan Davison, 27, of Ynys y Mond Road, Alltwen, Pontardawe, was found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and dangerous driving following a trial at Newport Crown Court.

The attack

After threatening to kill the victim, Davison climbed into his Volkswagen Taigo and reversed directly into her. The initial impact struck her in the knee and she placed her hands on the vehicle. He reversed into her a second time, though she managed to stay on her feet.

Davison then revved the engine and reversed at greater speed, hitting her with enough force to send her flying around five feet. He continued reversing until the car came to rest on top of her, as her children screamed through a window of the property.

Rescue and injuries

The woman was left pinned beneath the vehicle with fractured ribs and injuries to her torso, arms and legs. Firefighters were called to free her. She later described the pain as “worse than childbirth”.

She was taken to hospital and treated for rib fractures and a haematoma to her head before being discharged two days later.

The dispute

The incident took place on September 26, 2024, after Davison attended the victim’s Cardiff home following a disagreement with her husband over the sale of a car engine worth £1,000. Her husband was not present when Davison arrived.

The confrontation

A heated exchange broke out between Davison and the woman on her doorstep. He became “bullying and aggressive”, raising his voice to intimidate her, and struck a Ring doorbell camera in anger.

Fearing for her safety, the victim picked up a golf club to defend herself. Davison responded by filming her on his phone while mocking her and laughing. When the woman moved towards his vehicle to photograph the registration plate, he threatened to kill her.

Victim impact

In her victim personal statement, the woman said: “He hit me with his vehicle, leaving me trapped underneath for 90 minutes until I was rescued by the emergency services. It has affected me terribly in both the physical and mental side of things. It has undoubtedly had a lasting impact and my mental health has massively gone downhill.

“I haven’t left my home for a significant period of time over a fear of leaving the house. I have felt anxious and have suffered panic attacks. It has become so severe I have had to stop to get help. The muscles in my right hand have wasted away as a result of this incident.”

Sentencing

Davison denied the assault, claiming he had panicked because he feared for his life. He was convicted following a trial. The court heard he had 11 previous convictions.

In mitigation, Hywel Davies said his client’s partner and two children would be made homeless if he was imprisoned, due to the rent on a garage he used for his business, and that his full-time employee would lose his job.

Sentencing, Judge Eugene Egan described the evidence against Davison as “overwhelming”.

The judge added: “It’s a miracle the injuries did not go beyond actual bodily harm. You intended to teach her a lesson that day. You claimed to be in fear of immediate death but no injuries were caused to you and your windows were not damaged.”

Davison was sentenced to 30 months’ imprisonment and disqualified from driving for three years and three months.
