Folly Farm has announced the name of its newest addition – a critically endangered eastern black rhino calf.
The calf has been named ‘Rhodri’ the Rhino, continuing the Welsh name theme alongside his brother Glyndŵr. He is the son of Dakima and Nkosi.
The name ‘Rhodri’ (pronounced ‘rod-dree’) is derived from the Welsh language and symbolises strength, leadership and resilience. It’s a timeless and respected name, embodying a strong connection to the land and its people.
A spokesperson for Folly Farm said: “When the time comes for this important animal to move on from Folly Farm, to continue the breeding programme for the critically endangered species elsewhere – we want him to take his strong Welsh roots with him!” 🏴
The eastern black rhino is classified as critically endangered, making Rhodri’s birth particularly significant for conservation efforts.
