A former serviceman has been sentenced to four years in prison after sharing a video of child sexual abuse with an undercover police officer on the messaging app Kik.
Andrew Allan, 41, from Machen, Caerphilly, was found guilty of distributing and possessing indecent images of children. Police discovered 215 illegal images on his phone dating between 2019 and 2022.
During the trial at Newport Crown Court, the jury heard that Allan sent the most serious category of abuse material to an officer posing as a single mother. The court was told he had discussed plans with the undercover officer about “travelling to engage in sexually assaulting children.”
Judge Daniel Williams said: “Her travelling [to him] to engage in sexually assaulting children.”
The jury took just 20 minutes to reach unanimous guilty verdicts after Allan initially claimed his phone had been hacked.
The court heard Allan had previously served in the armed forces but was dismissed in 2005 for similar offences, resulting in six months in military prison.
Defence barrister Susan Ferrier told the court there was little mitigation to offer except Allan’s cooperation, adding that his “relationship with his wife could be in jeopardy.”
Allan will remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely and is subject to a sexual harm protection order. ⚖️
