Caerphilly pensioner admits sex assault on girl, 15

A 71-year-old man is facing sentence next month after admitting a sexual assault on a teenage girl.

The plea
Brian Hammond, of Vere Place in Gilfach, Caerphilly, has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a girl who was 15 years old. The offending took place last summer.

Case sent to crown court
Magistrates in Newport passed the case up to the crown court for sentence. Hammond is due before a judge on Friday 21 August.

Bail and notification requirements
Conditional bail was granted ahead of that hearing. Hammond has also been made subject to sex offender registration.

The girl is entitled to lifelong anonymity under Section 1 of the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1992, and nothing may be published that would identify her.
