A burglar who broke into the Wrexham home of an elderly vulnerable couple whilst they slept has been sentenced to two years in prison 🏠⚖️
Delstan Jones, 49, of Middle Road, Coedpoeth, appeared before Mold Crown Court on Thursday (July 31) after admitting burglary dwelling and theft.
The court heard that Jones burgled the home of Julie and Cederic Corcoran in the Caia Park area overnight on June 30 into July 1, 2025. The elderly couple had gone to bed at around 10pm, unaware of what was happening downstairs.
Mrs Corcoran discovered the following morning that their jewellery cabinet had been opened. Mr Corcoran found his wallet – containing his bank card and £100 cash – had been stolen during the night. Three handbags and the keys to the flat were also taken in what the court described as an “untidy search”.
Police later found Mr Corcoran’s wallet in Jones’ possession during a stop search in Wrexham, and his fingerprint was discovered on the jewellery cabinet.
The court was told Jones has 30 previous convictions for 70 offences, including five dwelling burglaries in 1997 and one in 2013.
Duncan Bould, defending, said Jones’ drug abuse had “spiralled” due to family bereavements and that the defendant is “ashamed” at what he’s done. He told the court Jones wasn’t aware the property contained vulnerable people and was able to “draw parallels” between the victims and his own parents, showing remorse.
Recorder Anna Price sentenced Jones to two years imprisonment.
