A man who threw glass in another man’s face outside a Chepstow pub has been jailed for 56 months.
Jackson Harris, 28, from Abergavenny, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Monday, December 22, where he was sentenced following the violent assault.
The court heard Harris was involved in an altercation outside the Kings Head in Chepstow in July 2024, which resulted in the victim bleeding from his mouth and nose and losing a tooth.
Following the incident, Harris was also found in possession of a “realistic” imitation firearm resembling a Desert Eagle pistol.
Impact on the victim
The victim has suffered severe emotional and physical consequences since the attack. He told the court he is reminded of the incident daily and that the loss of his tooth has prevented him from finding work.
He was turned away from a restaurant job because of his appearance and was released from his previous employment due to Harris living above the premises. Universal credit is now his only source of income.
The victim has experienced “sleep deprivation,” anxiety, a “lack of confidence,” and “concern for safety” due to his belief that Harris will “come for him.”
He has contacted reputable dentists to replace his tooth and been quoted as much as £1,200 for the procedure.
Defendant’s background
Harris had three previous convictions for violence and was involved in supplying Class A drugs.
In mitigation, the court heard Harris was “remorseful” about the assault and was “lower down the food chain” regarding his involvement with drug supply. His defence stated he was “glad to be arrested” because he got out “early” and “has an opportunity to turn his life around.”
The court heard Harris was “clearly lacking maturity as a man” and would benefit from the prison system.
It was revealed Harris is a father, and his child had been removed from the mother’s care with the possibility of being put up for adoption. Harris was also diagnosed with ADHD and had suffered “significant issues” while growing up.
However, the judge noted that Harris’s actions caused “serious harm” to the victim and confirmed the defendant would remain in prison until his late 20s or early 30s.
