A dangerous driver has been jailed after crashing his car into a wall while attempting to flee from police in Wrexham. 🚨

Adam Roberts, 25, of Glaslyn, Plas Madoc, Acrefair, was sentenced today at Caernarfon Crown Court to 16 months imprisonment for driving a vehicle dangerously.

The court heard that on February 21 this year, a police officer spotted Roberts driving a blue BMW without its front number plate at speed on Stansty Road, Wrexham. Later that day, a firearms officer saw the vehicle on Westminster Road in Moss Valley, and a Stinger was deployed on Wheatsheaf Lane.

During the pursuit, Roberts lost control and hit a kerb. Despite being signalled to stop, he continued driving, overtook a car, and subsequently collided with a wall before attempting to flee on foot. He was quickly apprehended by officers.

Upon arrest, Roberts tested positive for cannabis and cocaine but refused to provide blood samples at the police station.

It was revealed that Roberts had already been serving a 30-month driving ban imposed in January 2024, meaning he was driving whilst disqualified.

The court also heard that a month before the chase, on January 24, Roberts had stolen an olive green shell jacket worth £750 from House of Fraser in Telford, and £142 worth of scents from Boots.

His solicitor advocate Euros Jones told the court that Roberts has ADHD and had been released early in December without benefits. He “fell back to his old ways” and hadn’t taken medication for his ADHD at the time of the driving offence.

Judge Her Honour Nicola Jones also handed Roberts four-month jail terms for driving whilst disqualified and for failing to provide a specimen of blood, to run concurrently with the 16-month sentence. There were no separate penalties for failing to stop or having no insurance.

Roberts was banned from driving for a total of four years and eight months. For the two shop thefts, he received one-month custody sentences for each offence. The BMW was seized by authorities.
