A Wrexham man has been sentenced to 20 months in prison after an unprovoked attack left his victim covered in blood and fearing for his life. 🚨
Nathan Heywood, 41, of Poplar Road, appeared before Mold Crown Court on Tuesday, March 18, after previously pleading guilty to wounding with intent and going equipped for burglary.
The court heard that on January 25 this year, Heywood attacked his downstairs neighbour, Paul Keogh, with a glass milk bottle which shattered on impact, causing multiple lacerations to Mr Keogh’s forehead, nose and chest that required stitches.
Mr Keogh, who had known Heywood for 10 years without previous issues, was attacked after refusing to put Heywood’s milk in his fridge. The incident, which was captured on CCTV, left the victim “unable to see” due to blood and having to walk to a nearby shop to call an ambulance as he had no phone with him.
In his victim impact statement, Mr Keogh said: “When I was stabbed I thought I was going to die. Blood was pumping out my head. It put the fear of God into me. Nathan was drunk and had no reason to do it, I believe he should go to prison for what he has done. This has only happened because I haven’t put his bottle of milk in the fridge.”
The court also heard about a separate incident from August 28 last year, when Heywood was caught by police carrying stolen fence panels. A subsequent search discovered a screwdriver and hammer near the theft location.
With 46 convictions for 78 offences, including numerous violent crimes, Heywood was already in breach of two community orders at the time of the attack.
Judge Niclas Parry stated: “It’s so obvious what’s wrong with this case – you went to a person’s home and attacked him on the doorstep of his home. Those facial injuries he suffered are nasty.”
In addition to the prison sentence, Heywood received a five-year restraining order prohibiting him from contacting Mr Keogh. 🧑⚖️
