A teenager who brutally attacked a vulnerable 16-year-old with learning difficulties whilst playing “paedophile hunter” has been handed an extended sentence to protect the public. 😠⚖️
Logan Edge, now 18, slapped his victim repeatedly, held a knife to his head, and stole his mobile phone before callously throwing it onto a roof. The attack happened near Morriston library in April when Edge, wearing a black balaclava, confronted the boy and called him a “dirty nonce”.
Swansea Crown Court heard Edge “lifted up” the victim by his top before the sustained assault, which was filmed by an associate. When the victim’s mother rang during the attack, Edge simply took the phone and discarded it.
The victim’s grandmother said in a statement read to court that her grandson’s learning difficulties made him an “easy target” and the incident was “humiliating and degrading”. She described seeing the “distress and confusion” it caused and how it added to his “already shredded sense of self and others”.
Judge Catherine Richards said Edge showed no remorse and had a history of “violent and inappropriate behaviour” with previous interventions failing. She noted: “It was clear from the facts of the case and from the detailed pre-sentence report that Edge lacked any remorse or empathy.”
Edge, of Pentrepoeth Road, Morriston, admitted robbery and was sentenced to five years and two months extended detention – four years and two months in custody followed by 12 months on licence. He must serve two-thirds before applying for parole.
The judge said she was “satisfied an extended sentence was necessary to protect the public” due to the “high risk of causing serious harm to people” that Edge posed.
