Shoplifter jailed after TVs and fake tan theft spree

A prolific shoplifter has been locked up after a stealing spree that saw him nick everything from televisions to fake tan bottles across Cardiff and Caerphilly 📺🛒

Anthony Summerhayes, 39, of no fixed abode in Cardiff, was jailed for 14 weeks at Newport Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to five theft charges.

His crime spree included:

  • Two TVs stolen from Currys in Caerphilly on Thursday, July 24
  • Five bottles of fake tan worth £104.75 from Sainsbury’s in Cardiff on Thursday, June 19
  • Dishwasher tablets worth £168 from Sainsbury’s in Cardiff on Thursday, June 19
  • Chocolate, alcohol and coffee worth £135.70 from Co-op in Cardiff on Monday, June 30
  • Razors worth £74 from Sainsbury’s in Cardiff on Saturday, July 5

Magistrates heard that Summerhayes “has a flagrant disregard for court orders and has previous convictions for similar offences.”

The 39-year-old was also ordered to pay compensation following his sentencing.
