A Rhyl man has been sentenced to prison following a months-long stalking campaign that included vehicle tracking, threats, and physical violence. 📱🚔
Simon Peter Murphy, 43, of Brynmor Avenue, Rhyl, was jailed for 43 months at Mold Crown Court today (Friday, February 28) after admitting to stalking and domestic violence offences.
The court heard that Murphy, who was already in breach of a non-molestation order, placed a tracking device on his victim’s vehicle to monitor her movements. Between April 21 and June 28, 2024, he repeatedly called from a withheld telephone number to make threats, sent abusive messages from a false Facebook profile, and admitted to strangling the woman.
During this period, Murphy also jumped on the bonnet of his victim’s car, causing damage to the vehicle.
In addition to his custodial sentence, the Judge imposed a 20-year restraining order to further protect the victim.
Detective Constable Simon Price said: “Stalking is a serious crime that can escalate quickly and cause a victim to live in fear of danger. Murphy’s behaviour was fixated, aggressive, and intimidating and it has had a devastating impact on his victim.
“I hope this sentencing allows the victim to move forward, knowing he is no longer a threat to her safety. We take reports of stalking extremely seriously and will support you throughout any investigation.
“If you are, or have been, a victim of stalking or domestic abuse, do not suffer alone. Please report it to us online or by calling 101, and always dial 999 in an emergency.”
