A Rhyl man has been sentenced to four years and three months in prison after causing “horrific” pain to victims in two separate violent attacks.

Aaron Roberts, 31, of HMP Berwyn but previously of North Drive, was jailed at Caernarfon Crown Court yesterday (July 31) after admitting charges of wounding, common assault, criminal damage to property and affray.

The first attack occurred on 29th May 2024, when Roberts was asked to leave Michael Edwards’ home in Holywell due to his behaviour, including flicking cigarette ends at others. After initially leaving, Roberts returned and knocked on the door again. When Mr Edwards answered, Roberts “wrestled him to the floor, punched him to the face twice, and hit him over the head with a champagne bottle three times, until others dragged him away.” Mr Edwards later received stitches to a 5cm head wound.

The second, more serious attack happened on 27th July 2024, when Levi Lampard and his partner Amy Adams encountered Roberts at her friend’s home – who was also Roberts’ ex-partner. Roberts came outside and began shouting at Ms Adams before punching Mr Lampard to the face and stabbing him.

After Roberts ran back into the house, Mr Lampard followed, but Roberts “picked up a television and threw it at him, before he then lunged at him and struck him with his right hand.” Neighbours administered first aid whilst Roberts continued throwing items and shouting abuse from an upstairs window, causing damage to a neighbour’s car and smashing windows in his ex-partner’s home.

Mr Lampard was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd where he underwent emergency surgery the following day. In a victim impact statement, he said Roberts caused him “horrific” pain and left him “in a state of shock and panic,” adding: “I have never been so scared and I remember thinking I was going to die.” He continues to suffer from flashbacks and nightmares.

Defence barrister Simon Killeen said Roberts, who had 17 previous convictions for 31 offences, has suffered from significant mental health issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder.

Sentencing Roberts, Judge Nicola Jones said: “This was a case of really serious harm.” She also thanked Mr Lampard, who attended the sentencing hearing, for the “commendable” dignity he showed in court.
