A 20-year-old man has been jailed for 10 years after stabbing a defenceless victim in the back of a car on Salisbury Road, Cardiff.
Abdul Ali was sat in the front seat of a parked car on February 25, 2025, at 11.30pm when his 34-year-old victim got into the back seat. Ali immediately got out, ran around the vehicle, and opened the driver-side passenger door before lunging at his victim and stabbing him in the neck and stomach.
The victim managed to escape the car before another passenger restrained Ali. Following a scuffle between several men, Ali fled to a nearby fast-food restaurant where he locked himself in a toilet. He was arrested shortly after.
CCTV footage of the attack was crucial in identifying Ali as the perpetrator. The victim suffered serious injuries requiring urgent surgery.
Ali, of Salisbury Road, pleaded not guilty to Section 18 wounding with intent but was found guilty following a trial. He was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on Monday, September 21.
Detective Constable Anthony Hurley said: “Tackling knife crime is a priority for us and our partners. This was a vicious attack which could very easily have killed his victim – had it not been for the brave interventions of a man known to both men this could have been a lot worse. This is a level of violence which can never be normalised in the capital city and anyone caught carrying or using a knife can expect to spend a long time in prison.”
