Police have taken an electric off-road bike off the streets of Tredegar, a week after it was seen being ridden dangerously through the town centre.
How it was caught
Officers from Gwent Police’s Blaenau Gwent Neighbourhood Team were out on patrol on Friday afternoon (11 September) when they came across the bike being ridden with no insurance and without the rider holding the appropriate licence.
It was not the first time the bike had been flagged. The force says the same machine had been reported the previous week on Commercial Street, where it was ridden in a dangerous and anti-social way that put pedestrians and other road users at risk.
The bike has now been seized.
What the force is saying
Gwent Police said: “Let’s be absolutely clear: dangerous and anti-social riding will not be tolerated in Blaenau Gwent.
“If you choose to ride illegally, put other people at risk and cause disruption in our communities, you can expect officers to take action.”
The seizure forms part of Operation Shock, the force’s ongoing work targeting the illegal use of off-road bikes across the Blaenau Gwent area. Officers say patrols will continue.
Appeal for information
Police are asking residents to come forward if they know where illegal off-road bikes are being stored, have seen them ridden dangerously, or know who is riding them. The force says reports from the public help officers trace the vehicles, identify those responsible and stop further incidents before they happen.
Its warning to riders: “Ride dangerously. Ride illegally. Expect to be stopped.”
