A 27-year-old man from Hakin has been handed financial penalties totalling £1,625 after admitting to keeping a banned breed of dog at his home.
Cameron Jeffrey, of Hawthorn Path, was sentenced at Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court on May 26, where he was ordered to pay £1,500 in compensation, £85 in costs, and a £40 fine.
The offence
Jeffrey was found with an XL Bully-type dog named Pablo at his address on January 14. The breed is prohibited under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, and Jeffrey was charged with possessing or having custody of a fighting dog.
He pleaded guilty to the offence on April 21.
The order
Alongside the financial penalties, a contingent destruction order was imposed on Pablo. Under its terms, Jeffrey must keep the dog under proper control – or risk the animal being destroyed.
