A man who illegally dumped bags of waste – including loose knives – in a well-known beauty spot has been ordered to pay more than £900 after pleading guilty at Swansea Magistrates’ Court.
The discovery
Arron Dixon, 34, of Regent Street West, Briton Ferry, was convicted of unlawfully depositing controlled waste in the Eaglesbush Valley area of Neath Port Talbot – a spot popular with nature lovers.
Several black bags containing household waste and loose knives were discovered on Foundry Road, next to the steps linking to Meadow Road, on April 14, 2025, by Neath Port Talbot Council investigators.
The investigation
Evidence recovered from the waste was traced back to an address in the Afan Valley. A woman linked to that address told officers she had paid Dixon to take the waste away, and she cooperated with the council’s inquiry.
A council tax search subsequently confirmed Dixon was a resident of Briton Ferry.
While inspectors were still examining the dumped waste at the scene, a man in a Range Rover pulled up and became abusive towards the two council officers. Both left the area as the individual made his way into a yard adjacent to the fly-tipping site. He was later identified as Dixon.
Conflicting accounts
Neath Port Talbot Council said that when Dixon was formally interviewed, his version of events shifted and did not match the accounts provided by witnesses.
The outcome
Dixon pleaded guilty and was fined £200. He was also ordered to pay £498 in prosecution costs, £148.63 in compensation to cover the cost of removing the waste, and an £80 victim surcharge – bringing his total bill to £926.63.
