A fleeing driver who sparked a police chase after a collision in Colwyn Bay has been handed a prison sentence for running a county lines drug operation.

The dramatic chain of events unfolded on the afternoon of 25 June 2025 when officers were called to a two-vehicle crash on Nant-y-Glyn Road in Colwyn Bay. The victim of the collision told police he believed the other driver had been smoking cannabis before ploughing into his vehicle.

Instead of stopping at the scene, 30-year-old Dillon Eastaway and his female passenger jumped back into their silver Vauxhall Corsa and sped away from the area. Police quickly traced the vehicle back to Eastaway, who lives on Duke Street in Liverpool.

When officers caught up with the pair as they returned to the car, Eastaway was immediately arrested on suspicion of motoring and drug offences. But what started as a routine traffic incident soon escalated into something far more serious.

Working alongside Merseyside Police’s Op Toxic team, investigators linked Eastaway to a major county lines drug supply network. Officers searched both Eastaway and an associate who was living in a nearby flat, leading to a significant discovery.

Hidden inside a black CD player, police found a substantial amount of cash along with two bank cards in Eastaway’s name. They also seized provisional driving licences bearing his details. He was arrested again, this time on suspicion of being involved in supplying Class A drugs and money laundering.

Merseyside officers conducted extensive investigative work that connected Eastaway to a wider drug supply conspiracy involving heroin and cocaine. After being charged and convicted of being concerned in the supply of Class A substances, he appeared for sentencing at Caernarfon Crown Court today (Wednesday, 14 January).

Eastaway was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison.

Sgt Dan Ball of North Wales Police said: “Today’s sentencing highlights the crucial role that effective intelligence and information sharing plays in bringing offenders involved in serious and organised crime to justice. This case is a clear example of how close collaboration between forces can disrupt criminal networks that operate across borders. Without the timely sharing of information and the joint efforts of investigators, this individual might never have been held accountable for the full extent of is offending. We remain committed to working with partners across the region, including our colleagues in the British Transport Police County Lines investigation team, to identify, investigate, and dismantle those who think they can profit from the misery that drugs cause. This sentencing sends a clear message: if you engage in the supply of drugs, we will work together to find you, stop you, and bring you to justice.”
