A man from Birkenhead will spend the next two decades behind bars after being convicted of a series of horrific child sex offences that took place in Flint during the 1980s and 1990s.

Adrian Howarth, 58, of Market Street, faced justice at Caernarfon Crown Court today (Wednesday 14 January), where he received a 20-year prison sentence for crimes against three victims who cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Following a trial in November last year, Howarth was found guilty of 10 separate offences, including indecent assault, gross indecency, rape and cruelty to a child. The court heard how these crimes were committed decades ago, but the impact on his victims continues to this day.

In addition to his lengthy prison term, Howarth has been placed on the sex offenders register for life and lifetime restraining orders have been imposed to protect all three victims.

Detective Constable Tracey Hughes, who led the investigation, praised the bravery of those who came forward. She said: “None of these victims should have been subjected to the despicable abuse Howarth put them through, and I commend each of them for their bravery in reporting him and supporting our investigation throughout.

“As a direct result of their courage, a dangerous predator is now behind bars for a significant period of time.

“Howarth has shown no remorse for his crimes and instead, forced the victims to relive their trauma through a trial. All three continue to suffer the impact of his offending in their adult lives.

“I hope this case will encourage others who have been subject to sexual abuse to come forward and be reassured their evidence will be heard, whilst serving as a reminder to any sexual offender that they will face the consequences of their actions – no matter how and when sexual abuse occurred.”
