A Llanelli drug dealer nicknamed “Hillbilly” got so flustered when he spotted police approaching that he fled – leaving his storage unit unlocked with thousands of pounds worth of drugs and cash inside.
Matthew Davies, 37, was at his lock-up in the Dafen area on 13th September when PCSOs arrived to investigate a grey Ford Transit van driven by a suspected disqualified driver.
As officers approached, Davies frantically tried to secure the container before giving up in a panic and jumping over a fence to escape.
The open storage unit revealed street-ready deals of cocaine, cannabis worth up to £7,000, weighing scales, three mobile phones, and more than £46,000 in cash bundled in £10 and £20 notes.
Davies handed himself in to Llanelli police station three days later on 16th September.
The 37-year-old, of Dwyfor, Llanelli, pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine with intent to supply, possession of cannabis with intent to supply, and possession of criminal property. He was sentenced to three years in prison at Swansea Crown Court.
The £46,000 seized has been forfeited to Dyfed-Powys Police.
Detective Constable Steve Thomas said: “The quick-thinking of our PCSOs ultimately led us to Davies, allowing us to take another criminal off our streets. I hope this case shows that we have the means and motivation to investigate and prosecute those who disregard public safety by dealing drugs in our community. We will continue to take robust action against drugs in our area.”
