Two masked men carried out a terrifying armed raid on a family home in Llansamlet, binding their victims with cable ties and demanding money and gold during the knife-point ordeal.

Swansea Crown Court heard that on the evening of March 13, a married couple and their teenage daughter were at home when two masked men – one carrying a knife and one a hammer – confronted them.

Despite wearing masks, the couple recognised one intruder as Larry Black, 38. The unidentified accomplice put a knife to the husband’s back, warning that unless cash was handed over things would get “nasty and messy.”

The intruders bound all three family members with cable ties before stealing £500 in cash – money belonging to the couple’s son who had recently sold an e-bike online.

In impact statements, the husband said he had feared for his family’s safety, describing the incident as “the worst thing that ever happened to me.” The wife said she now keeps doors and windows locked at all times.

Black, of Caergynydd Road, Waunarlwydd, pleaded guilty to robbery. With previous convictions for robberies, attempted robberies, and 12 house burglaries, he had been out of prison for just weeks before this incident.

Judge Paul Thomas KC sentenced Black to a 13-year extended sentence as a dangerous offender – eight years in prison followed by a five-year licence period. Black refuses to name his accomplice, who remains at large. ⚖️
