A 59-year-old woman has been sentenced to ten years in prison after she was found guilty of using her vehicle as a weapon against a man on a Port Talbot street.

Louise Blackwell, of Port Talbot in Neath Port Talbot, was convicted of Section 18 wounding with intent following a trial. She had denied the charge, as well as a count of attempted murder, but a guilty verdict was returned on April 16 for the wounding offence. She had earlier admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent in December.

The incident

During the early hours of October 23, 2025, Blackwell was seen dropping the victim off on Margam Road before driving away. She then turned the car around and drove directly into the victim at speed as he crossed the road. According to South Wales Police, she made no attempt to slow down and fled the scene immediately afterwards.

Investigators established that Blackwell had been intoxicated at the time. She was located and arrested several days later.

Covering her tracks

Following the collision, Blackwell told her daughter she had hit an animal and asked for help cleaning evidence from the vehicle – before eventually being forced to reveal the truth.

The victim’s injuries

The man suffered serious injuries and faces a lengthy recovery period as a result of the speed at which Blackwell struck him.

Police response

Detective Constable Tom Herbert said: “Louise Blackwell is an incredibly dangerous woman who is fully deserving of being sent to prison.

“The victim was seriously injured and faces a prolonged period of recovery as result of the speed at which Louise Blackwell used her car to hit him.

“In a bid to cover her tracks, Blackwell then told her daughter that she had struck an animal and asked her to assist with cleaning any evidence off the vehicle, before she was eventually forced to come clean.

“A combination of alcohol and rage caused Louise Blackwell to carry out her horrendous actions on that day in October. She will now finally pay for her crimes.”
