A 47-year-old woman who used a Facebook page to falsely brand her former husband a rapist and a baby killer has been sent to prison for 18 months.
Jennifer Pritchard, of Arnold Place, Tredegar, was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court after admitting a malicious communications offence. The judge told her the posts amounted to a campaign of persecution against a man who is a serving South Wales Police officer.
The Facebook page
Prosecutor Pamela Kaiga said Pritchard set up a page under the name Jen’s Justice and used it to publish untrue claims about her ex-husband over a two-month period.
The fallout was not confined to social media. The court heard the officer ended up being investigated by his own force because of the bogus allegations, and that valuable police time was lost dealing with them.
The impact on her victim
The officer described in a victim impact statement how the campaign had been aimed at destroying his livelihood.
He wrote: “I was the target of a false and malicious campaign on social media to ruin my career.
“I’ve suffered anxiety, depression and other health issues. I just want my life back.”
He added: “I don’t think she will ever stop.”
The court heard he had also been left out of pocket by heavy legal costs linked to her offending, and that he had become “socially isolated”.
A history of similar behaviour
Pritchard only pleaded guilty on the day her trial was due to begin. She has three previous convictions covering seven offences, and the court heard she has shown no sign of regret.
In 2022 she was jailed for 12 months for perverting the course of justice in a case involving the same ex-husband.
In January 2025 she was convicted of harassing a different former husband, and in July 2025 she was convicted of causing a public nuisance or annoyance through a telecommunications system, that time directed at another police officer.
Remorse claim rejected
Her barrister, Tabitha Walker, told the court: “She is remorseful for the distress she has caused.”
Recorder Andrew Hammond replied: “She said she’s glad she did it.”
Miss Walker went on: “The probation service say they can work with the defendant – there is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation.”
The judge was not persuaded.
Addressing Pritchard, he said: “It has been said that you may derive satisfaction from the harm you cause.
“This offending amounted to a campaign of persecution against your ex-husband.
“You say your sorry for the harm you’ve caused, but I don’t believe you.
“I’ve not seen any evidence of substance to indicate any real remorse.”
He added: “You have a background of inventing false accusations.
“You present a high risk of harm to your ex-husbands and police officers.
“This is a very serious offence and there is a need for a deterrent here.”
Sentencing
Pritchard was jailed for 18 months and told she would serve around 40 per cent of the sentence in custody before release.
She was also made subject to an indefinite restraining order banning her from contacting the officer, and must pay a victim surcharge once she is out of prison.
