A vehicle workshop in Tredegar was being used as a front for a large-scale drug supply operation across south Wales, a court has heard.

Peter Yandell, 37, was arrested at Yandell’s vehicle workshop by officers from Tarian, the regional organised crime unit for South Wales. A search of the premises revealed significant quantities of cocaine and cannabis, along with specialist equipment for the “manufacture of illicit commodities” and an imitation firearm.

Evidence recovered from Yandell’s mobile phone uncovered extensive links to large-scale drug supply throughout the region.

Yandell, of Capel Street, Bargoed, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of class A and B drugs, and possession of an imitation firearm. He was sentenced to a total of 10 years imprisonment at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, including two months for breaching a suspended sentence order.

Following the hearing, Detective Constable Rhys Richards, of Tarian ROCU, said: “This operation dismantled a sophisticated drug production setup that was responsible for supplying harmful substances into communities across the region.

“Yandell attempted to hide his criminal enterprise behind a legitimate business, but the evidence recovered – in particular from his mobile phone – revealed the true extent of his offending. This investigation demonstrates Tarian’s continued commitment to exposing and disrupting organised criminality.

“We will work tirelessly to protect the public and ensure that those who profit from the supply of illicit commodities are brought before the courts.”
