A drug dealer from Pembrokeshire who raked in more than £85,000 through the cocaine trade has been ordered to pay back just £1 after a court heard he had no seizable assets.
The conviction
Christopher Smith, 36, of North Lane in St Twynnells, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine and possession with intent to supply the class A drug. His offending took place between August and November last year, and he was sentenced to four years in prison on December 9 at Swansea Crown Court.
Proceeds of crime
The prosecution subsequently brought an application under the Proceeds of Crime Act, seeking to recover the profits Smith had accumulated through his criminal activity. The court determined he had benefitted to the tune of £85,860 from dealing cocaine. However, an assessment of his financial position revealed he had no assets available for confiscation, with just £1 identified as the available amount. Judge Paul Thomas KC made a confiscation order in the nominal sum of £1.
