A 24-year-old man has received a suspended prison sentence after four dogs were discovered living in deplorable conditions at a property in Pembroke Dock.
Kane Robert Jake Watson pleaded guilty to three offences under the Animal Welfare Act at Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court. The court handed down a 32-week suspended prison sentence, 300 hours of unpaid work, and a 10-year ban on keeping animals. 🚫
RSPCA Inspector Keith Hogben discovered the animals in January 2024 following concerns from a local dog warden. “I entered the property, and the smell of dog faeces and urine made me cough,” said Inspector Hogben. “The environment was filthy, wet, and strewn with household rubbish. Dog faeces and urine were on the floor.”
The four dogs—a male chow, two bulldog-type dogs, and a male lurcher—were found in varying states of neglect. Two were confined to cages without proper care or facilities. The male chow was found unresponsive with a matted coat, while a female bulldog had no bedding or water.
Despite veterinary intervention, the male chow’s condition deteriorated, leading to the difficult decision to humanely end his suffering. The remaining dogs have since been rehomed after being taken into police care.
