🚨 A Swansea man has been jailed after throttling his partner when he became angry at a crying, teething child.

Daniel Jamie Gibson, from Clase, squeezed his girlfriend’s throat with such force that she felt her head would “explode”, Swansea Crown Court heard.

The assault, which occurred in November last year, began when Gibson “kicked off” and threw a bowl across the room before grabbing the victim’s neck. The incident wasn’t reported until October this year.

Judge Huw Rees noted Gibson’s “disturbing offending history” which includes 20 previous convictions for 36 offences, including assaults and breaches of restraining orders involving a former partner.

“I hope the guilty plea is a reflection of real contrition”, said Judge Rees whilst delivering the sentence.

Despite the assault, the court heard that Gibson remains in a relationship with the victim, who is now expecting their child. His defence counsel, Andrew Evans, stated that Gibson views the relationship as “positive” and believes he is making progress.

Gibson was sentenced to 20 months in prison after pleading guilty to intentional strangulation. He will serve up to half in custody before being released on licence.
