A woman was forced from her vehicle in a frightening carjacking incident near a Swansea chip shop. The attacker, Rhys Williams, 26, entered her car uninvited and stared at her with what she described to police as “evil eyes” before forcibly removing her from the driver’s seat.
The incident occurred on October 27 when the victim was waiting for a friend near Roma chip shop in Townhill. After stealing the car, Williams crashed into parked vehicles on Pantycelyn Road before fleeing the scene.
“When the defendant got into her car she thought he was going to attack her,” the prosecutor told Swansea Crown Court. The victim now feels unsafe in her own car and hesitates to leave her house alone.
Williams, of Townhill Road, pleaded guilty to robbery, multiple driving offences, and failing to provide a specimen for analysis. Judge Huw Rees sentenced him to 40 months in prison, noting the incident must have been “a terrifying experience for the woman.”
The defendant’s lawyer, Andrew Evans, cited Williams’ adverse childhood experiences and mentioned his client had not been taking prescribed medication, instead “self-medicating” with alcohol.
A seven-year restraining order has been imposed, preventing Williams from contacting the victim.
