A cannabis dealer who called his ex-partner a “rat” and tried to force her to withdraw an assault allegation has been jailed for 15 months.

Ashley Cann, 29, of Glantawe Street, Morriston, was arrested after police found 130g of cannabis worth around £1,000 at his father’s house, along with weighing scales, snap-seal bags, and £380 in cash.

Following his arrest, Cann went to his ex-girlfriend’s home, shouting abuse and calling her a “slag” and a “rat” whilst “pushing and shoving” her. Despite being bailed with a condition not to contact her, he continued his campaign of harassment.

On 12 May, he was seen outside the victim’s grandmother’s house making faces, waggling his finger and making “tut-tut” noises. Three days later, he phoned calling her “an evil b*tch” and a “rat”, telling her to contact police and withdraw her assault allegation.

Cann then posted on Facebook: “Juicehead or not it’s game on my friends” accompanied by brick, fire, house and devil emojis. His ex-partner saw the post and took it as a threat.

In a victim statement read to Swansea Crown Court, she said as Cann’s ex-partner she “knows what he is like”. She said she hopes he gets help to address the anger issues which affected not just their relationship “but all his relationships” otherwise there would be “new victims” when he comes out of prison.

Judge Geraint Walters told Cann he had shown himself to be someone who “seems to have a particular liking towards harassing people”. He said the defendant had come before the courts “time and time again” and told Cann he needed to decide whether he was going to continue being a “nuisance” for the rest of his life.

Cann, who has 15 previous convictions for 46 offences, pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis with intent to supply, possession of criminal property, assault by beating, harassment, and witness intimidation.

He was sentenced to 15 months in prison and made subject to a five-year restraining order banning him from contacting his ex-partner.
