A stash of class A drugs concealed in a bread roll has helped put a Cardiff dealer behind bars for three years.
Craig Jones, 41, of Cardiff, was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment after being convicted over the supply of crack cocaine and heroin. Officers found 36 wraps stored in a plastic pot that had been pushed inside a bacon roll in his room.
Spotted on patrol
Neighbourhood officers were carrying out proactive patrols around Callaghan Square in Butetown when they saw what they believed to be a drug transaction taking place. Jones was identified as one of the parties involved and was detained at the scene.
Wraps discarded on the floor
Once he had been stopped, Jones tried to push a wrap down into his trousers before dropping it on the ground. Twelve wraps were recovered in total. He told the officer dealing with him that they held crack cocaine and heroin.
Messages on his phone
Jones’ mobile was examined and officers identified messaging consistent with drug supply. He was arrested.
A stash inside a bacon roll
A subsequent search of the room Jones was using uncovered a further 36 wraps of crack cocaine and heroin. The drugs had been placed in a plastic pot, which had then been hidden inside a bacon roll.

Inspector Gareth Handy said:
“Our neighbourhood teams are patrolling day in and out to keep our communities safe and stamp out criminality. This stop search is just one example of how the Cardiff Bay Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to proactively disrupt drug supply.
“Illegal drugs always have devastating effects on the people who use them, their families, friends and the wider community. Jones will rightfully head to prison for his actions.”
