A Caerphilly man who assaulted his former girlfriend and repeatedly harassed her from prison has been sentenced to three years behind bars.

Dale Mason, 40, broke into his ex-partner’s home and struck her, breaking her glasses, before threatening her with a baseball bat – all while under an existing restraining order.

“The victim recalls her whole face moving, her glasses breaking and falling off her face when he hit her and also being frightened as he waved the bat in the air,” prosecutors told Newport Crown Court.

Police later found Mason lying in the victim’s bed with the weapon. While in Cardiff Prison, he orchestrated a harassment campaign, making 90 calls and arranging for cellmates to send letters begging for reconciliation.

Judge David Wynn Morgan delivered a powerful message during sentencing: “Everything revealed about you today in my courtroom shows that you are a coward.” ⚖️
