Two 19-year-olds have been sent to a young offenders’ institution and a teenage boy given a referral order after a robbery in Port Talbot that put the victim in hospital.
The attack
The victim was set upon on 26 November 2025 and had his bank card taken. He needed hospital treatment afterwards, with a cut to the back of his head closed using glue.
Junior Evans
Evans, 19, of Port Talbot, admitted robbery and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He has been committed to a young offenders’ institution for two years and six months, made subject to a restraining order protecting the victim for five years, and told to pay a victim surcharge of £228.
Kurtis James
James, also 19 and of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to robbery and to keeping a child in care away from the responsible person without lawful authority. His was the longest custodial term of the three – three years and two months in a young offenders’ institution – and he too faces a five-year restraining order.
The 17-year-old
The third defendant, a 17-year-old boy from Cwmbran who cannot be named because of his age, admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two breaches of bail conditions. He was not detained, instead receiving a twelve-month youth referral order alongside a restraining order running for one year.
What police said
Detective Constable Ria Price of South Wales Police said:
“This was an unacceptable episode of chaotic violence against a defenceless individual, enacted by three cowardly young men.
“There is no place in society for thugs who behave like them.
“Reviewing the footage of the incident during the investigation was stomach-churning. It is incredibly fortunate that they did not do even more serious damage to the victim.”
All three orders bar the trio from approaching the man they attacked.
