Breaking news for rugby fans: TNT Sports is reportedly taking the reins of Six Nations broadcasting from 2026, marking a significant shift in how fans will watch this prestigious tournament.
According to reports from RugbyPass, TNT Sports (formerly BT Sport) is positioned to become the primary broadcaster, potentially making this the first time some matches will require a subscription to watch.
“Having impressed the Six Nations committee with their coverage of the Autumn Nations Series, TNT Sports have proven itself more than capable of taking on such a prestigious event as the Six Nations and look destined to be the host broadcaster from next season,” states the RugbyPass report.
The current £90 million deal shared between BBC and ITV expires this year. With the tournament now valued at £100 million, Barbara Slater, outgoing BBC director of sport, confirmed in November that the BBC would struggle to maintain its coverage due to rising costs.
While TNT Sports appears set to lead coverage, ITV might retain rights to some matches. There’s also a slim chance of BBC securing a “sweetheart deal” with tournament organisers. A hybrid model combining subscription and free-to-air coverage seems increasingly likely.
For fans considering TNT Sports, subscriptions range from £20 to £30.99 monthly, offering access to Premier League football, Champions League, and various other sports including MotoGP and UFC. ⚡
