A Cardiff father-of-four was arrested after breaking into a Boots store in Blackwood, making off with thousands of pounds worth of perfume in a late-night raid.
Jermaine Brawn, 36, was discovered hiding under a car by police dog Charlie after he and an accomplice smashed their way into the High Street pharmacy at 2.40am on Monday, May 6.
The lightning-fast burglary, which took less than a minute, was thwarted when an unmarked police car happened to drive past. The burglars dropped their haul of fragrances during the ensuing chase through Blackwood.
When shown CCTV footage of the break-in, Brawn claimed “That’s not me” – but forensic evidence from smashed glass fragments linked him to the scene. The court heard he had planned to sell the stolen goods to “provide for his family”.
Judge Celia Hughes told Brawn: “You caused a financial loss to Boots and distress to members of staff.”
Already serving a three-year sentence for burglary, Brawn received an additional eight months in prison. He must also pay a victim surcharge upon release. 🏛️
