Over 70 arrested in south Wales county lines crackdown

South Wales Police made more than 70 arrests during a major week-long operation targeting drug supply and exploitation across the force area.

The enhanced activity formed part of the national County Lines Intensification Week, running between 2-8 March, with Organised Crime, Intelligence, and Exploitation teams joining forces to dismantle criminal networks, safeguard vulnerable people, and shut down active drug lines.

Neighbourhood officers also carried out dedicated patrols in areas linked to county lines activity and spent time raising awareness of the tactics used by criminals to exploit vulnerable individuals into transporting drugs on their behalf.

The results

The week of action delivered significant results across south Wales:

  • 77 arrests
  • 8 drug lines seized and closed
  • 55 people safeguarded, including 41 under 18
  • 580g of crack seized
  • 455g of heroin seized
  • 3,806g of cocaine seized
  • 760g of cannabis resin seized
  • 3,140g of cannabis bud seized
  • £66,572 in cash seized
  • 11 imitation firearms seized
  • 7 bladed weapons seized
  • 64 mobile phones linked to drug activity seized

What police say

Detective Superintendent Matthew Cox said: “At South Wales Police we are committed in our efforts to tackle drug supply in our communities, finding those accountable, and safeguarding those who have been exploited for the benefit of others.

“This week of intensification, in collaboration with working with neighbouring police forces and partners resulted in the dismantling of many criminal enterprises and the seizure of drugs, weapons, and cash linked to illegal activity.

“I want to reassure the public however that efforts to tackle this type of crime continues around the clock, with our teams dedicated to detecting and disrupting all criminality and exploitation linked to the supply of drugs.”
