The family of a 17-year-old who died after officers were called to a Welsh town have paid heartfelt tributes, describing him as “a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew him”.
Tristan Shae Kerr died at the scene after police were called to Lower Francis Street in Abertridwr, Caerphilly, at around 17:45 GMT on Thursday.
Four people have since been charged with his murder and appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court on Monday in a short hearing.
Ricardo Elliot, 26, Connor Palfrey, 24, Elexi Manny, 24, and Georgie Mears, 18, spoke only to confirm their names, addresses and dates of birth during the proceedings. All four remain in custody ahead of a hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday.
Tristan’s mum, Claire Spriggs, paid a moving tribute to her son, saying: “At just 17, his bubbly spirit, outgoing heart, and unwavering loyalty made people feel instantly welcome and deeply valued.
“Though his time with us was far too short, the warmth he gave and the love he shared will remain with us forever.
“I will miss his relentless phone calls and tasks he gave me to do daily. My eldest son, my first love.”
His aunty, Rachel Spriggs, said Tristan was “a force of energy, laughter, and determination”.
“From the moment he discovered motorbikes, they became more than a hobby,” she said.
“They were freedom to him. They were joy, they were where his focus sharpened and his smile grew widest.”
She added that the family will carry him with them always, whether it be “in the roar of an engine”, or in the stories they’ll keep telling, “because saying his name keeps him close”.
“He will always be our lad. Always loved. Always missed. Forever 17,” she added.
Gwent Police said specially trained officers are in place to support Tristan’s family.
