A care worker feared for her life after a man pointed an air rifle at her face during a routine home visit in Mountain Ash 🚨

Natasha Grimes and her colleague Maria Evans were conducting a tenancy support visit at Christopher Rees’ home when he locked the door behind them and became increasingly agitated.

Cardiff Crown Court heard that upon entering the living room, the women noticed a concerning display of samurai swords, knives, and two air rifles positioned on either side of the fireplace.

As Rees, 47, began complaining about neighbour issues, he picked up one of the air rifles and pointed it directly at Ms Grimes’ face, telling her “I want you to feel as scared as I do living in the flat.”

Ms Grimes later described feeling terrified during the incident: “Never in my life have I felt so scared as I did trapped in someone’s house with a gun held to my head. I genuinely thought I could be killed in that moment, I could only think about my children and was worried they would be told their mother had been killed in work.”

After the frightening confrontation, Rees apologised and unlocked the door, allowing the women to leave. Police later found two deactivated air rifles at the property.

Rees pleaded guilty to possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He was sentenced to one year and four months imprisonment, though due to time already spent on remand, he will be released imminently.

The incident has had lasting effects on Ms Grimes: “It’s changed who I am professionally. I struggle to sleep thinking about the incident a lot. I am thankful I have a supportive partner, family and colleagues. I’ve felt the last six months I’ve had to push through it as best I can.” 💔
