Cardiff Man Jailed for Hotel Sexual Assault

⚖️ A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison following a violent sexual assault at a Cardiff hotel.

Cail Sweetland received a prison term of 8 years and 1 month at Cardiff Crown Court after pleading guilty to sexual assault by penetration, assault causing actual bodily harm and unlawful wounding.

The four-hour attack left the victim with serious injuries, including a bleed on the brain.

Detective Constable Anthony Hurley from South Wales Police said: “This horrendous ordeal which took place over a four-hour period has understandably had a profound impact on the victim physically and mentally.

“Her wellbeing was at the heart of our investigation, and I would like to commend her bravery in fully participating in the investigation and daunting court process.

“We hope the outcome brings some comfort and allows her to rebuild her confidence. No-one deserves to be subjected to this level of violence. We are committed to protecting women from violence, and to keeping our capital safe.”
