Tyran Webber, 37, of Cardiff, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison after admitting to threatening to kill his own mother, assaulting her and harassing her while subject to a court order forbidding him from contacting her.
Mother’s Day abuse
The offending began at the start of 2026 when Webber breached a restraining order to repeatedly contact his mother demanding cash. Newport Crown Court heard that on Mother’s Day, while his victim was at the grave of her own mother, Webber phoned and launched a torrent of abuse after she declined to hand over money.
He called her a “sneaky f****** grass c***” and warned she had made a “big mistake.” He then threatened: “I will kick you in the teeth and stomp your head in the ground. I will throw you off the NCP car park in front of the prison. I suggest you send me money in a hot second.”
Prosecutor Alex Granville told the court that Webber also sent a text sarcastically reading “Happy Mother’s Day” before adding: “The horrible c*** you are.” He went on to accuse her of being a “paedophile” and of “pimping children out on the dark web”.
The assault
Hoping he would finally leave her alone, the victim agreed to meet Webber and gave him £10. But he forced his way into her car, hurled a container of food onto the road, broke her glasses, ripped up her cigarettes and seized her purse searching for more cash.
Webber then ordered his mother to drive him somewhere to obtain more money, and during the journey he spat in her face twice. The victim managed to flag down a police vehicle in distress and Webber was arrested.
Threats continued
Even after his arrest, Webber showed no sign of stopping. He told officers: “I’ve got a lot of mates you know, that’s a big mistake for her, mother or not.”
He later sent his mother a further message warning: “When I get over the wall, I’ll be jumping on the phone and you’ll be visited.”
Victim’s words
In a victim personal statement read to the court, his mother described the toll of his behaviour: “It’s had a profound effect on my life. I’m living on egg shells. If he comes to my home or demands more money I don’t feel safe. He ignores restraining orders in the past. I’m worried about reprisals upon his release. He’s broken into my house in the middle of the night demanding money and making threats.”
Mitigation and sentencing
Defence barrister Christopher Evans told the court that Webber had been withdrawing from opiates at the time of the offences and was behaving erratically. He added that his client has not spoken to his mother since the incidents and does not wish to contact her again.
Webber, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to harassment, threats to kill, assault by beating and criminal damage. The court heard he has 44 previous convictions including for assault occasioning actual bodily harm, battery, common assault and criminal damage.
Passing sentence, Judge Eugene Egan told the defendant: “She’s your own mother, you ought to be thoroughly ashamed of yourself.”
Webber was jailed for 21 months and made subject to a five-year restraining order.
