New data reveals 13,500 drivers caught speeding on 20mph roads in Wales last month.
The average speed for enforcement action was just over 28mph, with one motorist clocked at a whopping 85mph in north Wales! 😳
GoSafe’s September figures show:
- 43% of caught drivers attend speed awareness courses
- 95% of monitored vehicles drove at 25mph or less
- Over 52,000 drivers caught since enforcement began
Meanwhile, Transport for Wales reports slightly longer journey times on most 20mph routes: “Generally motorists are facing two minutes added to journey times,” they stated.
However, there’s a silver lining – less variability in journey times means greater certainty for travellers.
Lee Waters, Deputy Minister for Climate Change, commented: “The 20mph default speed limit is designed to save lives and make our communities safer places to live, work and play.”
