Netflix has announced an increase in subscription prices across the UK, following similar rises in the US, Canada, Argentina and Portugal. 📺

The platform’s most popular plan, the Standard subscription without adverts, will now cost £12.99 per month, marking a £2 increase. Other packages are also seeing price adjustments, with the Standard subscription with adverts rising by £1 to £5.99 monthly, and the Premium subscription increasing by £1 to £18.99.

Extra Member add-ons will also see a £1 increase across different subscription tiers.

A Netflix spokesperson stated: “We will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can re-invest to further improve Netflix.”

The streaming giant’s decision comes after reporting record global subscriber numbers at the end of 2024, with nearly 19 million new subscribers joining in the final quarter alone. This surge was partly attributed to the success of Squid Game’s second series and expanded sports coverage, including NFL games and the Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson boxing match.

Technology analyst Paolo Pescatore noted: “The streaming business is following mainstream TV in its price rises, and we should get accustomed to them.” However, he cautioned that “Netflix must tread extremely carefully… there is a ceiling, a point at which consumers will become incredibly frustrated by price hikes.”

The new prices are now reflected on Netflix’s website and apply to both new and existing customers.
