A ‘brazen’ burglar broke into a home in Blaina, then returned hours later with his brother to break in again through the same door.
Daniel Price first entered the property in the early hours of February 13 through a smashed lower panel of the rear door, stealing car keys, a purse, credit card and driving licence. Police attended and covered up the damaged panel.
However, at around 7am Price returned with brother Jonathan – both masked – and broke in again through the top panel of the same door, taking wireless headphones, a travel case, tablet and other items.
Daniel later attempted to use the stolen credit card at a nearby shop whilst Jonathan waited outside. Police found traces of Daniel’s blood on the door, linking him to both break-ins. When arrested, Daniel was also found with cocaine.
The homeowner said in a statement: “Our home is a place that should have been our safe haven. We feel violated.” He added that whilst he and his partner weren’t home during the burglaries, he witnessed them on CCTV.
Daniel Price, 36, of Heathfield Close, Garnlydan, Ebbw Vale, admitted two burglaries, fraud and cocaine possession. Brother Jonathan, 34, of the same address, admitted burglary despite initially denying involvement.
The court heard Daniel had 24 previous convictions for 45 offences, whilst Jonathan had 38 convictions for 64 offences – both including numerous theft-related crimes.
Defence said Daniel had stayed out of trouble for “close to 10 years” but fell back into offending due to “the pull of addiction”. Jonathan’s solicitor said he’d been in a “downward spiral” after bereavements, with a six-year gap in offending between 2016-2022.
Judge Paul Hobson jailed Daniel Price for 27 months, describing the double burglary as “particularly brazen”. Jonathan Price received 876 days imprisonment.
